Can you bypass or get around Google Play Store phone compatibility?

DISCLAIMER: I am NOT trying to get around Region or Carrier Lock; Only Phone (In)compatibility
I apologize if this has been asked before, but I would like to try out an app (a free app) that the Play Store says is incompatible with my phone (Droid 2 with CM7 GB). Reading the developer's specs, it sounds like it should be compatible, but the store says it is not. I know it's not a region or carrier issue, so is there anyway to get around the phone compatibility block? It's quite possible the app won't work or it'll be particularly buggy, but I'd like to try.

You could try downloading the APK to your computer from Google play store, then drag and drop it to your phone.

Edit: well that didn't work, play store would only use my google acct: to my Bionic.
Ok, this I know works! You need a friends phone that can actually download the app you want, tie in both phones with usb cables with computer and THEN you can drag and drop the APK . I've done this many times, it works!!! ;-)
