I want to root my phone. can someone explain how, and what advantages i will get from doing this? If there is like a choice of what roots, i will go with the one that makes my phone lite, speedy, whatever lol. Thanks! I will keep reading, but i dont want to brick my phone or stuff so would rather someone post a step by step.
thanks

The only advantage is that you gain more control over you phone and can do modifications that you like. The disadvantage is that there are things that you can do, that cannot be undone. Just do plenty of reading before you make any changes. Do not delete bloatware. You can freeze it or rename it, but do not delete it.

Good luck.

Yes. You cannot do anything to system files without root.

However, you do know the OTA update is due out soon and will fix your data problems? That would not require root.

Good luck.

i know soon, but how soon lol, another 2 weeks of this idk. Maybe i should return it for iphone 4gs

You can either sit tight for the update's official roll out, or if you're too impatient, there are some leaked updates you could download that doesn't require root access. I tried one of them out and it did seem to help. You could root and try some of the more recent leaked updates. But you need to do your homework first. A simple forum search can answer most of your rooting questions.

Just a question with all of this. What is the danger involved with deleting bloatware? Seems like it should be safe to delete useless apps like GoToMeeting or Citrix, or Blockbuster. But I obviously am not familiar with that. Can anyone explain what problems can occur?
