Can a droid be integrated with any vehicle headunits?

I need to buy a new head unit, and I'm looking at ones that offer a million capabilities, but nothing would be better than plugging in my droid and having it all appear on the head unit screen... navigation, text messages, pandora and other apps..

Is such a thing even possible?

Not to the extent I believe you are looking for. Depending on which phone you have and which head unit, you may be able to see texts and control Pandora, and your other music. I know of no way to get Google navigation on your head unit.
You will need to look at the capabilities of both your phone and the head unit.
There is no way that I know of to mirror your phone and control it from the head unit.

I have seen a HU like that, but it's not a common thing at all.

Last thing I saw about something like you want is through Kenwood. I only found the article, so you can maybe google more into it or something.
