Buy SGS3 or wait for next-gen?

So... my contract is up at the beginning of October and not sure if I should get the SGS3 or wait for the next major releases. I have been trying to read up but I don't pay complete attention to cellphones unless I'm in the market for another. I was hyped for the SGS3 when it was released but didn't really have the cash flow to warrant a new phone at the time. The note2 has me really interested but in the end, I think it will be too big for daily use. My next thought is to wait for the wave of razors to be released in November but not sure if its worth the wait. What is your opinion? Thanks for any advice! :)

I would just wait, especially if you want to see that new RAZR line. Even if you don't opt for it you'd still be glad you waited. Who knows by then whatever phone you have your eye on now nay be a lower price by then.

Will the new razrs be that much better than the sgs3? Also, is there any other phones coming out worth noting? I saw a preview for a LG phone, but in the end... its still a LG phone and they don't have the most impressive track record in my opinion.

Never said they were going to be better, just saying they were newer, that's it. "Better" is a subjective term, outside the hardware specs of course, heck some people find great joy in their previous generation devices. I just say you might as well wait since those new devices are about 2mo or less away from now. I don't know about you, but when it comes to deciding something that will be with me for at least a year, I like to keep my choices open. Waiting another 2mo is worth the time when you know you're most likely sticking with your choice of device for 2yrs. So once you run a little comparison in the store there are less "what ifs", if any, about your choice. Just my .02

This is very true. I haven't seen a phone yet that has compelled me to ditch my good ol droid2

From a hardware point of view, the new RAZRs won't be packing anything that the S3 doesn't have. And in some regards, they'll have less (such as 1GB vs. 2GB of RAM). The biggest things that will set them apart should be the radios along with the battery life of the MAXX HD. Of course there's also personal preferences for the physical design and UI, along with real world performance. But when it comes down purely to specs on paper, the new RAZRs fall a little short of the S3. They'll definitely be more than capable devices though, and are certainly worth considering.

The only rumors about future phones that I've heard about recently are the Galaxy Note 2, a rumored 5" 1080p device from HTC, a mid-range HTC, the iPhone 5, and speculation over the new Nexus (or several new ones...which I'd say aren't likely to come to Verizon). My suggestion is to go check out the S3 and see what you think about it. Unless you want a larger device like the Note 2 or the rumored 1080p from HTC, there isn't much on the radar that will be packing specs beyond the S3 in the coming months. But of course, that's not to say that something won't come out of left field and surprise us all. :)

Also keep in mind that you'll lose your unlimited data if you sign a new contract and buy a new phone at a subsidized price. If you want to keep your unlimited data, you'll need to buy a phone off contract. That might also impact your decision to wait or to look for something now.

Ok, thanks everyone. I was excited for the sgs3 before it was officially announced and if the new razrs are basically analogous in terms of specs then I think i will get that. My buddy has one and i def like it. I guess I can wait for the note2 to come out and see what that is like at least. Also, I know I will lose my unlimited data, it sucks but seems like all companies are doing that now. Sucks even more if I bit the bullet and upgraded when the sgs3 originally came out and I could have kept my package. Oh well, life moves on. Thanks for the help everyone.

I think att let's customers keep their unlimited data plan, last I read. Hopefully Verizon follows that trend.

Good luck on your decision
