We love the smell of leaked intel in the morning!!! We were treated to this hot news leak as soon as we came in this morning. Blackberry leaked the specs and pricing info for their new PRIV Android smartphone. Late last night they posted a pre-order page with specs and pricing details, but quickly took it down. The folks at Carphone Warehouse did the same thing.
This first version of the device will be sold off contract and unlocked for the steep price of $749. Of course, when you consider Blackberry's legendary security and couple that with the following specs, then that price could be a good value:
- 5.4-inch 2560 x 1440 display (540 DPI)
- Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 processor
- 3GB RAM
- 32GB storage (microSD slot up to 2TB)
- 18-megapixel camera with OIS - includes a six-element f/2.2 lens and will record 4K video at 30 frames per second
- 2MP front camera with f/2.8 lens and 720p video recording
- 3410mAh battery with Quick Charge 2.0
- NFC
- Android 5.1.1 Lollipop
- Slide-up keyboard
The leaked intel does indicate that (at least this version) will only be GSM, so it won't work on Sprint and Verizon. It's possible it will be exclusive to AT&T and T-Mobile, but we have no further info to corroborate that. The leaked pre-order page also indicated a November 16th ship date, which could make some folks extra "thankful" this holiday season.
What do you folks think? Could the Blackberry PRIV be the surprising Dark Horse of 2015? Also, be sure to check out the additional official images in the thread below.
