black screen

I charged up my phone tonight and when I came back about an hour later to turn it on, the screen was black. Should I take the cover off the phone and try taking the battery out?

actually I'm the same person who had the problem with the screen last week. I let the battery run down and I charged my phone up the next morning. Turned it on no issues, so I'm just going to assume that the system has crashed.
