So when I unplugged my phone after a night at work, I noticed it was pretty warm. This isn't unheard of since I use it to stream music over the course of the night, but it is always plugged in, so the battery is always around 100%. Anyway, after picking up my phone after roughly 7 hrs of sleep, I noticed the phone was too warm, and found the battery at 30%(!). I immediately checked to see which apps were eating the battery and found Google Play Services and mm-qcamera-daemon had 23% and 22% respectively. Rebooting the phone seemed to take care of the warm battery and power consumption, but I'm still a bit curious why those two apps seemed to randomly get so power hungry - any thoughts?

Keep an eye on it. Sometimes an app will hang up like that. It's odd for play and the camera to do it but can happen with any app I suppose.

Funny, because yesterday was big drain for me too. Did not do anything out of the norm but battery was at 50% with only 90min screen time at the end of the day. It's always "Google Services" that are the biggest app drainer for me. Always.

Screen is always on "auto." GPS is on "battery saver."

Yesterday there was a huge solar storm and it caused major interference of the electromagnetic spectrum. A lot of your battery drain was probably related to the fact that the cell tower signal was being depressed by the electromagnetic bubble from the solar storm.

Make sure Picasa is not checked in your Google account if you're not using it. If you do use it usually a reboot stops it.

Google Services isn't my biggest draw but there are days when it's way up, like second behind screen. On those days my drain is faster than normal. This started happening maybe a month ago. I've tried to figure what part of Google Services might be causing the draw but I don't know.

There are quite a few items included in Google Services, not the least of which is location services, checking for app updates and more. It's sorta like the basic operating system with lots going on.

Battery draining here. Go to bed 1 am with 100% battery. Wake up at 6 am with 80% battery. Android OS - 25% Cell Standby 25%, android system 20%. Android OS doesn't specify what is using; Cell standby says 3h 15m 18s; android system, normal system services. So, how to save battery live. Seems like 20% battery loss in 5 hours with not using the phone is a lot, or is that normal?

I usually get about 10% drain overnight in 6-7 hours, so yours seems a little high. How often do you reboot your phone? Have you cleared the cache? Rebooting on a regular basis solves a lot of problems like this. Post your actual battery stats and people smarter than me can possibly help you.

Ha, fixed the battery drain. LOL Turned off wifi and data during the night. and instead of decreasing 20% it decreased 3%. turned wifi and data on when up and no problem, no sudden decrease, etc. Weird.

If your carrier is doing work on the cell your phone is connected to, or series in the area, late at night , the time they usually test and stuff, your signal would go to squat and your phone would crank up the power trying to get a signal. What did your cell standby look like during the time it was draining more than normal? Did it move up in stats? Was there more than 5% of its time without signal?

My signal has remained good. One morning got up with 1 tiny bar, rebooted phone and all good. But, the continuous .00001 GB every 2-4 hours is ridiculous, especially when data is off. Verizon cannot say what it is. I've kept times for 4 days and going to take it to the corporate store and see what they say. I believe that is what was causing excessive battery drain of 20% in 5 hours overnight. Until then, will continue to turn wifi and data off and keep track of battery usage.

To be honest, my phone spends all night on the charger, so I find that's a good cure for the "battery drained overnight" issue that keeps cropping up. :)

Not very helpful, I know, but it's a common issue...
