Best Modern ROM for Sholes, MOTO DROID OG

Greeetings,

I have been searching around for the best working ROM for my OG Verizon Droids. I have tried the following:

JB CM10 port > was too slow
ICS from 3n3rg1c > but the google play FCs
CM9.0.1 > would not install

Another post I read here said Steel Driod was my best bet. However Version 5 is for Droid 3 apparently, and all I see for the OG is version 3.x

Is this the latest version?

Any "modern" rom on the OG isn't going to work as intended.

Froyo was the last thing that ran "well" on it.

Well I saw people were using CM 7.2.0, so I installed it. It works very well but is kind of bland. Is Steel Droid sleeker looking?

Not quite certain, I never ran it. It may have been lightly themed.

Cyanogen is stock android if you want a skinned ROM you'll need to get some icon packs or disgust a theme for your launcher.
Gingerbread was the least thing I remember being able to run but it was glitchy in the WiFi.

CyanogenMod 7.2 running my deprimed kernel is about good as it gets on the Sholes (OGD).
