battery power

Wake up 100%; to high 90 by leaving house. Bluetooth on and listening to audio book on way to work. At work after two meetings I plug in and im at less than 50%... unlplug after a bit and go to a series of meetings battety gone by 230. I live or die by my email.. currently using automatic bluetooth app to control that and screebl pro for screen... any help appreciated

You should get better battery life than this. We'll need some more data here.

If you go to Settings > More > Battery, what is shown for the major activities using the battery?

Do you run WiFi all day? Where did you set the screen brightness? Do you use Power saving mode?

You might want to try turning Bluetooth on and off manually to see if that has any impact on your battery life. Perhaps the same for Screebl, although I never had any problems when i used it.

What apps do you sync and what is the frequency for those syncs?

How strong is your signal strength at work?

How's your signal at work? Even with your use the battery drain shouldn't be that severe, it sounds like your phone is struggling to keep a signal and is constantly searching for one. Is there wifi at your work? I think it would be better to connect to wifi instead of 4g.

I do have wifi at work. How would I switxh while at work easily. Ive heard of taskee.. could rhat be used?
You could just leave wifi on and it should automatically switch to work wifi once it's been remembered.

I re-read this OP and the time using audio books is while in commute, not while at work. If OP is losing power that quickly the phone is likely suffering from one or more things combined, such as Cellular signal (for which WIFI will serve no purpose since OP isn't using much data at work, only email), rogue app sucking down power, high screen brightness, or something else.

I just had my S4 die completely after giving me similar performance to the above. I got it with the original OS, then OTA upgraded to ME7. Recently the new upgrade came out to MI1, but the phone wouldn't upgrade. After 3 attempts doing Repair Assistant, the phone finally gave up and died completely. I suspect it was flawed from the beginning.

To the OP, does the phone get or stay "warm" to the touch? If so, it's either battery consumption due to Cellular radios looking for a tower, or CPU running in the background (remaining "awake" as opposed to screen on).

Let's do some more investigation together. Answer the above and we'll see where to go from there. A screen shot of your Battery stats would be helpful.

Thanks all. Seems better t Po day. Charging at noon for first time and still has 30%. I turned off gps and brightness to auto. Also changed mail sync to every hour (can always do manual). Wi fi and 4g both search for signal. ... not sure if there is an answer for that.

Sounds like you have a weak phone signal and that's what's killing your battery. How many bars do you have at home and at work?

2 bars right now at work...

I don't think that's it. The reason I say that is the rural building I work in is metal and concrete, and in my windowed office I get one or two and rarely three bars. If I go away from the windows, like to a meeting, I have 0 or 1 bar. I just got back from a 10.5 hour workday, and I'm sitting at 68%. Yesterday I only got down to 75% because I was in my office more. Even on a bad day I don't get below 60%. I do use the phone on and off for Email, texts, calendar, etc - so light to moderate use. You've got some other issue. I suggest loading up a few apps to do some analysis; SystemPanel Lite, OS Monitor, and GSam Battery Monitor.

I will agree that poor signal shouldn't result in massive consumption of battery power, however I have seen it happen. It wasn't so much that the signal was low, but that the radios were pinging incessantly. This resulted in the phone being warm throughout the day and battery life was miserable. This was confirmed by looking at the battery chart and taking note where the fastest consumption of battery life was and what signal level was being reported at that time. It was blatantly obvious that the times during when the phone had little to no signal, the battery levels dropped on a steep slope, and when it had plenty of signal the battery levels - well...leveled off.

That is why I asked for a screen shot of the battery life. I don't have the S4 now (mine's dead, CLNR is on the way), but I believe it's in Settings, under the "More" tab, part way down. Here's mine as an example off my MAXX.

In my case above, it wasn't signal level but instead was GPS with the screen on virtually the entire time on a long trip today. In fact, with mine...when the signal was high (green under "Mobile network signal"), was during my navigation periods and that was when the power consumption was also high. The times that signal level was low (while here at work - the yellow and brown), the battery consumption again leveled off.
