Is this due to a sensor that only illuminates them in the dark, or is it just a fault in the software? My X has this problem. The hard keys may or may not light up under the same lighting conditions, may stay on or turn off when plugged into the stand at night. All this happened after GB.

This is one of the features that I like ...but I could understand too where you would miss it not lighting up.

Right there with you, did not notice in the beginning (mainly cause I just know which soft buttons are what) but mine do not backlight either, even in a pitch black room.
