Backlight off?

Can someone enlighten me as to how to turn of the backlight on the Back, Menu, Home and Search keys along the bottom?

Doesn't seem to me that they usually stay on but I can't recall for sure.

Tap the power button. Though I suspect you're asking how to turn off only that backlight.
