I just uninstalled Handcent SMS b/c I kept receiving force close errors which was a PITA... Anyone know a good app to use in place of the handcent app on a Droid 1?
Mike you can both send an email as a text message and send a text message as an email
To see this in action - using Handcent in the "to" box type in your gmail address and type your text and send...when you receive it in your gmail the "from" address is your mobile number plus a verizon @ domain - if you reply via email to that address it will come to your phone as a text message
I was just reading about force close on other posts and some people say that you don't need a virus protect (Lookout) for the Droid. I was just nervous about receiving some type of virus on the droid when downloading apps. If that's the case, I'll uninstall Lookout and reinstall Handcent and see if that works...
An example of the force close. I'll send a text from my Droid to a friend's email address. They'll reply to me from their email to my cell (text) and then I receive a force close error. It's much easier and faster for me to send a text to an email than an email from my Droid to an email address. Hope this helps clear it up.
Really? I also have advanced task killer installed b/c "they" say it slows down the Droid and uses a lot of the battery - if apps or programs are running in the background. Mine is just a stock Droid (not rooted) with OTA updates and I'm fairly new to Android so I'm not really familiar with the needs of certain apps. I would like to root it someday but don't really know how and am a bit nervous I'll screw up my phone and have to get a new one... Boooo. :icon_eek:
Task Killers are not needed, Android handles tasks very efficiently and third party applications that claim to do the same add confusion to the system causing lowered battery life and slow system performance
