Android 2.2 - Froyo

2.2

I called verizon on monday before the announcement and the customer service reps at the 800 number informed me that motorola is the one that pushes it to phones, but who knows if that is correct

Motorola releases and then Verizon tests. Verizon gets the final say in what gets pushed to our Phones. Google only has say in whats pushed to their phones. If Motorola didn't want to upgrade no company could make them...they do it for good business. But like I said, If Verizon doesn't like something, performance, software-wise, etc...Motorola would have to change it and send it back for Verizon to test till it passes...

The way I read the news on Froyo was that it was coming to all Android phones. That being said, it is up to VZW to decide what it likes/dislikes about the software, send it back to Moto for changes, and then restest. I would imagine we will see 2.2 sometime in July, latter half. It could take longer, really though, who knows?

I am pretty confident, though, that we will get it.

Sounds like a long wait to me and after the repeated delays of getting 2.1 out to customers, rooting and installing a custom 2.2 ROM is pretty appealing.

The problem here is everybody is basing their estimate on what happened with 2.1. There were a couple of delays with 2.1, this is true. But how many of you were around when 2.0.1 was released? If you were around for that you would know that the release started a good 7 days before the rumored date.

your right hook. I am open to giving Motorola and Verizon another chance, but even after un-rooting and installing the 2.1 OTA update I was so used to running the custom ROMs that I re-rooted and loaded cyanogen's MOD. I am looking forward to it either way.

Screw the Incredible.

Screw the iPhone 4G.

Screw the Shadow.

I just want 2.2 on my Droid so I can load tons of themes/apps on my Droid!!!!!!!!dancedroid

This is what FroYo does with your Phone....

Exactly..just goes to show that people only remember the bad/last things that happen lol why bother even saying its gonna be a long wait... if thats what you think, try being optimistic...

2.01 did come out without a glitch. 2.1 was such a debacle that it left a bad taste in everyone's mouth. I hope this one is released without any problems as well so we can focus on the phone.

7 months later and I still can set mine down for more than an hour or 2.....dancedroid

This statement reminds me of XP, Vista, Win 7.

If they launch 2.2 correctly, many a person will forget the problems of 2.1 and they will be heroes again.

2.1 wasnt' a debacle. verizon's meddling was the debacle. 2.1 fixed alot of issues with 2.0.1 but changed some things that made people feel the update might have been worse.

regardless, 2.1 was a much needed update from 2.0.1, which came out on-time.
