Android 2.2 - Froyo

Anyone know when froyo is coming to droid?

Sent from my Milestone

Soon. Had to say it. Really, given the last release I think one can safely assume it will be months before we see Froyo on the Motodroid. Then will we finally see more than three home screens? It is apparently left up to the phone manufacturer to decide that and other tweaks though...

Why do you say that? Did you have your Droid when 2.0.1 was released? I did and it was done actually before the release date. Don't let that last release be the example, 2.0.1 was done extremely well and delivery was excellent.

I still say it will be here in June, I'm thinking early June but no later then June. If it isn't here by July 1 come back and tell me I was wrong.

Motorola didn't say "soon", they said "in the near future". The near future to me is within a couple weeks, not a couple months, especially with Froyo already being shipped out to Nexus Ones

I had mine on day 1 so did experience the 2.0.1 update, but that was different. They were under a lot of time pressure because of the focus issue cycle hitting again. That release fixed a few things but still had some issues they may have preferred to work out if it hadn't been for the camera cycle issue. The 2.1 release is quite stable, and despite what folks say about the release on N1 pressuring the other manufacturers, I think they realize that point releases don't cost them as many sales as they might lose by pumping out a bad bug to millions of existing customers. By the time moto and VZW have at it, I predict late July.

Trying to post this link as a new thread for nexus one owners but for some reason it says i cant do that because i am not allowed.

I used to be able to post new threads, and i have only made one or 2 threads but now it says admins took that away. Perhaps its just a "glitch"

but here you are...it may be old news but this is what I read on endgadget this morning..

Android 2.2 Froyo manual update found, now available for select Nexus One devices -- Engadget

We can't make new threads in the news section, you'll be fine elsewhere.

I saw in a different post that 2.2 is out for the Nexus too. It is a Google phone so I suppose it is to be expected that the N1 would probably get it fast. Sounds like it was ready, they announced at the dev conference, and promptly released it. I also don't think we'll get it in a week but a week from now is June :)

Another thing to keep in mind is that Google and AT&T have not officially released 2.2 to the unwashed masses. They released it to press evaluation phones and someone figured out the link and posted it. Still, since no steps were taken to prevent that, they as much as released it...

Unfortunately judging by the comments left on this Lifehacker post about manually putting 2.2 on N1 it appears that some are having issue with the ATT phones.

I think we will be waiting a while for Verizon to deploy froyo. It is far more likely we will see a dev release a custom ROM soon.
