all audio sounds like "chipmunk" from moto Droid

When I tilt the phone upright and have it on speaker, it sounds like alvin and the chipmunks, all audio is sped up. whether it be speaker or in-ear speaker.

Even when people leave a voicemail, notification sounds, it's all higher pitch and sped up.

Do I have a defective speaker now or is this a software glitch?

Sounds like something is defective. Probably not the speaker but something that wont likely be cured through software.

I'd take it in to a verizon store.
