Adding new contacts to existing custom group

I created a "family" contact group, but after I created the group my grandson got a cell phone to use as the house phone. I can't figure out how to add him to the family group. My only option seems to be to delete the group and recreate it including him. But now I can't remember how I deleted another group I created.
