Right now, my house is four or five miles beyond the 4G coverage zone. I live in the greater Philly area. My question is - is the network being expanded outwardly? Will it gradually grow to cover more areas, like a wave? In other words, can I expect that my barely-over-the-line town will have coverage sooner than someone who is further away from the 4G area as it is right now?

It's hard to say, but my guess is yes. If you live close to a current 4g area it will get to you sooner.
