2nd Droid, but new here. Is rooting that great?

I've been rocking my new Droid RAZR MAXX for a couple months now. Quite an upgrade from the DroidX.

Not sure if I want to mess with rooting and ROM's. I use to have a part-time job keeping up on the latest leaked OS in my BlackBerry Storm 1 and 2 days. What is really the main advantage to rooting? Is it really that much better? Or is the ROI questionable at best?

Welcome to Droid Forums!! And that is a pretty big question to ask. Rooting, IMO, is worth it but there are plenty of users out there who enjoy the Android experience without doing so. My advice would be to read up and gain as much info as you can before taking the plunge.

Biggest advantages for rooting is (for me, at least....)

(1) Getting rid of bloatware.

(2) Ability to use "No Ads" app to remove adds..

(3) Ability to back up data.

(4) Wireless tether apps so my wi-fi only tablet can always connect.

Thanks.
I already found a solution to #4, FoxFi. It shares my 3G/4G with my laptop via Wi-Fi.

Congrats on the Maxx!!

Rooting is really a personal preference...I rooted for screenshots and the ability to change my system fonts...I do run custom ROMs but that is really secondary to the things above.
