I've heard that high-definition screens like e-ink are easier to scan but I've never had one to try. No way would I pay $300 to get a device that reads books but won't do anything else. ;P
The Amazon Kindle will also surf the web (specifically for Wikipedia, but I've gone to other sites, too). It was $250 and you can pry it out of my icy cold hands when I'm dead. But then, I read several books a week so I get a ton of use out of it.
