Hope this hasn't been covered to death.
I searched but could not find.

How do I silence the ringer but still have it vibrate when receiving a notification?

This really shouldn't be this hard...
Like putting an automatic space after choosing a suggested word when typing this post.

Do they test this stuff before selling it to us for large amounts of money?

;(

I can get it to vibrate with a sound, but when sounds are disabled I get no vibrate.

Check in the sounds settings. I remember seeing a setting to always vibrate, or vibrate on silent, or something along those lines. It could also be from one of the custom roms I have used as well so please don't be mad at me if you don't see it lol.

This post is Incredible 2!

The phone can be set to just vibrate using the volume rocker button. Vibrate is the lowest volume setting.

I use audio manager to handle my audio profiles and I don't have a problem setting vibrate only. And that's the free version. Give that a shot, it's worth it when manufacturer's muck about in things like this and don't give clear options.

Wow!
I was looking for an app exactly like this!
I like being able to see the state of all my volumes at a glance, not to mention its other features.
However, I think I've solved the vib prob.
I had this same prob w modded ROMs on my Droid 1.
It seems that those ROMs didn't like some of the different vibration possibilities available in k9 mail.
That's the only conclusion I could come up w after much troubleshooting.
My apologies to the k9 dev if I'm wrong and I still think it's the best email app.

Thanks
B
