You can get to the navigation through the "Car Panel" shortcut

There is a Navigation icon right in the app drawer that opens up Google Maps Navigation.

Thanks guys. I did find that finally, but I'm looking for roadless areas, where I can also get my location via lat & long. Anyone got that?

Check out the free app GPS status.. it has a compass, lat/long and altitude among a few other things. You cannot really punch in lat/long and have it bring you to a spot, but you can mark a location and have it bring you back.. (ex. car in a mall parking lot)..
