Traveling to Mexico, will i be able to use my android phone?

I have a htc thunderbolt and i'll be leaving for Cancun, Mexico in a day. How should i have my android phone set up? i'm running the latest firmware on my thunderbolt (gingerbread?). Should i turn off my mobile network? Should i leave it on airplane mode throughout my stay in Mexico?

Turn mobile network off so that it doesn't grab data, and set system select from Auto to home.

If you go on airplane mode you may not be able to use stuff like WiFi and Bluetooth.
