I know. I HATE this. Right up until the phone gets discontinued, the "retail" prices never change!

That pisses me off the most. "Retail" is completely stagnant and then all of a sudden the phones are not able to be purchased. Makes you wonder where all of those phones go...

It's kind of like the department store that marks a product at $100, so they can offer it for sale at 50% off and sell it for $50 - which is what the price REALLY should be along.

Verizon (and others) like to show you that they're giving you a $400 discount when they sell you that $600 phone for $199. And when the subsidized price drops to $99 they want you to think they're saving you $500 now, which they couldn't do if they also dropped the retail price by $100.

It's such a stupid game. And, since Verizon doesn't really want you to buy a non-subsidized phone and keep your unlimited data plan, I don't see the game changing any time soon.
