I have an iCal .ics calendar file that I would like to view as a calendar through my Droid. The .ics file is stored on our web site and is accessed via http://

The popular way to view such a file is to subscribe to the .ics file via the web-based Google Calendar.

Unfortunately, there is a well publisized issue where the Google Calendar only refreshes the file automatically after at least one or more days. The manual refresh does not work either. See these links for details on the issue:

Microsoft web-based calendars have a similar issue (I tried them). The only calendar app that I have found to work is the desktop-based Windows Calendar.

Anyone know of a Droid Calendar App that can read and display an iCal .ics calendar directly via http:// ?

Thanks,

Stefan

I had zero issues with .ics files using my gmail account. I would get a invite, select Yes for attending, then it would automatically show up in my stock calendar.

Unsure if this is related to what your issue is or not, the ROM I was on was UD8.

It was very seemless.

The issue originally described is concerned with refreshing the contents of a Google Calendar when the calendar is linked to an .ics (iCal) calendar file via http://. There are no issues related to using Google Calendar, but refreshing to an updated version of a calendar is a major issue.

An .ics file is a calendar created with another application such as Outlook or Apple iCal. You can store the .ics file on a web site and display the calendar which is contained in the .ics file using a web based calendar application such as Google Calendar or Microsoft Windows Live Calendar.

The issue relating to Google Calendar described in detail here:

http://groups.google.com/group/goog...i/browse_thread/thread/d223e9878465c45f?pli=1

is that Google Calendar has no way of refreshing a calendar to reflect a new .ics file which was recently updated. The Google Calendar only recognizes a new .ics file after several days. The net effect is that it takes several days for Google Calendar to display a newly refreshed .ics calendar which renders Google Calendar useless when trying to display .ics calendar data.

The big advantage to .ics files is that you can use a very flexible and feature rich application such as Outlook to create and update a calendar. The calendar is then saved as an industry standard .ics file. The .ics calendar can be saved in a central location such as a web site. The .ics file can then be shared and displayed across many different calendar apps including Google Calendar or many calendar apps on mobile devices.

I was looking for a Droid calendar app that would display an .ics calendar file without using Google Calendar to get around the above mentioned refresh issue...

I need to be able to print my ical from my Droid using the printer share app. Any helpful information would be appreciated

Log into the web-based Google Calendar and on the left-hand side, there should be a triangle underneath where it says "other calendars", next to the word "add". If you click it, there should be an option to add by URL.

check out Ics Bot. Works great. Once installed, .ics files open in the android calendar app.

After looking for a while, I found this app:
ICS 2 Calendar
As the name suggests, this is all it does :)
simple, neat and doesn't add any unwanted features to the calendar.

cheers
