Phone locked can't reset password

So I have forgotten my screen lock password on my droid x. Typically after 5 guesses you have to wait thirty seconds to try again and at this time you can select 'forgot password' and enter your gmail account and password to reset. Well the forgot password selection isn't showing up on my phone. I'm assuming it's because I'm rooted???? Any suggestions on avoiding having to factory reset? Thanks
