Paying for apps secured?

I know people are paying for certain apps all the time, but I'm really new at this and wanted to get the "Pure calendar widget," but it is asking for my credit card number. I don't see where it shows it's secured and fill a bit nervous about it all. I would rather use paypal, do some apps give that option? I've only down loaded freeby's so far.

Google Checkout

I have a Motorola Droid, other phones might be different. My "market" uses my Google checkout account which is like paypal.
