need for anti-virus app?

As this is my first smartphone, I am unaware of the necessity of installing anti-virus apps like i would for my other computers. I find it strange that this isn't a common discussion like it is in other parts of the computing world.

Are these computers safe from virus infection with an embedded anti-virus, malware, etc... program?

nothing is ever 100% safe. but since this OS is based around linux, i'd say it's pretty secure. eventually someone will find an exploit i'm sure.

correct nothing is safe, but do these antivirus programs actually provide any protection? being incredibly lightweight, i'm thinking no...
