So I'm very new to my gnex and I'm trying to load some music onto it. Is there a specific file type that it requires?

Well I tried dragging over some files and they showed up in the system memory but wouldn't register in the music app.

What type are you trying to put on there?

Are your music files infected with DRM?

Where are you putting the files on your phone? Have you reboot since putting them on there?

Music players from the market, such as Poweramp can play more slightly obscure formats that the stock player may not. OGG, FLAC, APE...etc Still probably won't play DRM content.

As noted above, if your files are DRM protected, you'll have to use the player from where you got the music. If they are anything but MP3, as was suggested, I recommend PowerAmp.....yes, I am biased! ;)
