Modified CWMrecovery for Odin (DJ05/DL09) Plus new root instructions
Folks, I modified the Odin package that installs clockwork recovery so that it *should* work on any future versions without reflashing kernels, and without rooting your device.

This provides a nice way of rooting your device, because as long as you have the cwm update.zip on your sdcard (at the base) and this Odin flashed, you can root your device by merely installing ChainsDD's superuser package via clockwork recovery.

Odin
http://adrynalyne.us/files/odin/Odin3v1.3.exe or DJ05_DL09_kernel.zip

The Odin package:

ChainsDD's superuser
[APP] Superuser 2.3.6.1 - Now on the Market [2010-09-05] - xda-developers
(you want the ef version)

My modified ChainsDD superuser +busybox package
http://adrynalyne.us/files/odin/su-2...usybox1.19.zip

update.zip to use with clockwork (goes on base of sd card)
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2056318/update.zip

If this update.zip gives you trouble, please get it from the source. You will need to rename this file to update.zip.
http://koush.tandtgaming.com/recover...-fascinate.zip

Simply flash the Odin, boot to recovery, apply update.zip and load the superuser package. Done and done. No rage exploit, no fighting with one click methods.

Or, if you are feeling adventurous, you can try Clockwork Recovery RED, which works 100 times better, but has not been heavily tested with non-voodoo installs. It should be ok though.
http://adrynalyne.us/files/odin/CWMR...09_RED.tar.md5

This method requires ONLY this Odin method. You do not need update.zip unless using rom manager. Credit jt1134 and supercurio for Red cwm. Credit to squash/times-infinity for the idea

Note to Stock Users
I have found that the stock Samsung kernel is very sneaky and replaces clockwork on the next reboot...it seems to be most common with those who have updated using Verizon's OTA updates. Odin users usually do not see the issue and hence, was tough to track down.
So to alleviate this, please add an extra option to your list of things to do. On FIRST boot into clockwork recovery, please flash your appropriate kernel of choice. For simplicity, I have added a rather plain kernel (non-voodoo) for those who may want to flash their choice of kernel later. This must be done for those who have this problem, no matter if clockwork is red or green.
Kernel Download:

Here's what a user over at XDA did to get it working...

"I had to do it twice. the 1st time it didn't work, and usb stopped working. so i odin'd DL09 again and re- did the process, and re-downloaded the files. It works.

Step 1 oden fresh DL09.
Step 2 drag and drop update.zip and the CWM .zip files to the root of the sd card.
Step 3, boot into recovery.
Step 4 update.zip.
Step 5, select install .zip, go to CWM .zip file and yes to install. reboot and superuser works"

new but anxious to try...

Regarding your prob....

If you run this Rom here http://www.droidforums.net/forum/sa.../115664-rom-dl09-super-clean-0-4-release.html it comes rooted and all you would need to do is ODIN flash this regular CWM Recovery file here http://goo.gl/HELdr and put this file on the root of your sd card http://dl.dropbox.com/u/458252/Fascinate Files/update.zip in case you cant get into CWM Recovery for some reason....

For instance, when I vol up+vol dwn+power into recovery it takes me to the stock recovery page, hit down and the home button to apply update.zip...bam into CWM Recov you go and all is good....

Hi,
Been reading this forum since 12-30-2010 and think I am ready to take the plunge. After reading new root instructions and this response, it makes me believe I can root and "rom switch" all in the stroke. I all I have to do is swap these files out with the one in the first post. Is this coorect? Ive seen a lot of people have trouble with mms, bluetooth, and text messages after going to supah clean. I have the OTA DL09 update. Would I need to odin a modem with supah clean dl09? As long as go DL09 to DL09 it seems like this would be easy as long as I follow the step by step guide. Am I right in assuming this? (No other flashes)

I am currently running a stock phone, unrooted. I see no reason to root unless a rom is installed to take advantage. I do enjoy my phone but would love to see a slicker interface. Been using zeam launcher. It seams to help. I dont run many widgets b/c it appears to slow down the phone. I get at least 10 hrs of bettery life with light use and most radios turned off. Will supah clean give me this as well or will I need a custom kernal to achieve this minimalistic expectation?

I know lots of questions, but Im a noob and love my phone. Still ticked about the 2.2 crap from samsung. Just making sure I understand dont get in over my head.

Thanks for your help...

Thanks for your help...
if your running the OTA DL09 i would go ahead and root using this thread instuction(not the quoted instruction, it will not root an unrooted phone) and ODIN flash ClockworkMod recovery etc....
Then you will be able to load SuperClean v0.4...as far as going from DL09 to DL09 you will not have to flash the DL09 modem/radio as you already have it installed but I would flash a DJ05/DL09 kernel, this will give you good batt life, still retain haptic feedback and texts will work fine...
In this forum you will find all needed files and instruction to make all this happen as smoothly as possible
Just read and take it slow

download update.zip and put on root of your sd card, http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2056318/update.zip , If this update.zip gives you trouble, please get it from the source here http://koush.tandtgaming.com/recover...-fascinate.zip
You will need to rename this file to update.zip and put on root of your sd card after removing the one that didnt wrk obviously

download superuser package and put on root of sd card
http://adrynalyne.us/files/odin/su-2...usybox1.19.zip
Forget using the red Clockwork Mod recovery, thats for voodoo kernels

Simply flash the Odin, http://adrynalyne.us/files/odin/CWMR...5_DL09.tar.md5
boot to recovery
apply update.zip
On FIRST boot into clockwork recovery, please flash your appropriate kernel DJ05_DL09_kernel.zip
install file from sd card, choose superuser.zip file then yes to install
after installed hit go back, then on main screen reboot and you will be running DL09 rooted with CWM recovery green
