I've been using my droid for over a year now and have had google voice for most of it.

I don't remember this being an issue before but lately (the past 4 or 5 months). My droid has been trying to get me to use the default verizon text instead of google voice.

For example, when I listen to a voicemail in google voice then hit options -> text, it brings me to the verizon text. Or when I am in my contact list and hit text, it brings me to verizon text.

I tried uninstalling google voice and then reinstalling it. No luck.

Is there a way to change both of these to google voice? I'd rather be texting for free.

You mean the default Messaging app? I'm not aware of any Verizon texting app.

Go to Settings->Applications->Manage Applications and clear defaults for the default Messaging app. Next time if should ask you which app to use (along with the "Use by default..." checkbox).

Use the same process to clear defaults for any type of app.
