lights on bottom icons

Hi all, my wife has a DINC2, and today the lights that illuminate the search, home, menu, and back buttons across the bottom of the phone flickered off and can't figure out how to turn them back on. Any suggestions?

There is no setting to turn the lights on or off that I have ever discovered. More than likely the little LED behind the buttons failed.
