I use keyboard backlight. Its free in the market and it works great at enabling/disabling the keyboard backlight.

That's too bad, I've been extremely happy with it. Did you wipe before installing gingerbread? I feel like the issues most people have with gingerbread can be resolved with flashing a sbf before installing to start clean.

Yep, I also have a problem with my keyboard backlight not lighting up in the dark, makes it really hard to type.

I tried to download the 3.8.7 sbf from the TBH app so I could try and .sbf once again and the download failed...ugh.

have you tried selecting and unselecting automatic brightness?
mine won't come on unless I do that, then it's fine until it's turned off and I have to do it again.
must be a bug in gingerbread.

It is a bug. I could never get my backlight to come on so I went back to froyo. there were a bunch of great things in gingerbread but I need to be able to see my keys.

Has anyone else had problems with keyboard backlight not working with the rooted gingerbread, or is it just me?

I just tap the sleep (power) button when keyboard light goes off...comes back with 'on' tap.

I have unrooted GB...but had this problem (w/ same solution) with Froyo as well.

I have been having the exact opposite problem my backlight likes to stay on when I am watching Netflix or when I have it docked for my alarm clock. I am going to give that app a shot.
