This sux.

I am on a family plan 700min with my brother who has iPhone.

I don't want to bump up to 1500min.

Any options I have for my nexus for free calls?

There are numerous ways to use your data connection (wifi as well) to make calls. I can't really help you with specific apps, or setups, as I haven't touched this method in quite some time. But they are out there (you can search the market for SIP or VOIP and probably find quite a few of them).

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.csipsimple or https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.sipdroid.sipua or https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tcx.sip.ui or https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.gvoip as examples. There may be better options out there, but I am a little out of the loop when it comes to these programs.

If you are talking to others with smartphones there are even more options, something like https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=mobi.androidcloud.app.ptt.client is fairly popular it seems.

Depends. You can use Google voice I think to make free calls as long as you have data connection.

On my Xoom Tablet, I created a Google Voice number and us groove IP to make and receive calls. Makes the calls like VoIP (Voice over Intranet Protocol) like a Vonage phone. You can forward your number to the Google Voice. I have 5 phones on my account. Never use more than 200 minutes combined. Lol.

You could opt for one of the new sharing plans... it has unlimited calling and text, but you share a pool of data. That might suck if you have an unlimited data plan already though.

However if you use less than 2gb a month then I think the plan would work great for you. You might end up paying a little more, but they throw in unlimited text and minutes so it's not so bad. At least they do that to make up for the lack of unlimited data now.
