On my daughters I put App Lock. I locked the Marketplace and any other settings I didn't want her to have access to. Then when she wants to download Apps I enter a 4 digit pin and we look together. Once we exit the Marketplace its locked again until the next time I enter the pin.

Hope this helps you. It worked great for me.

If I had children, and I don't I'm smart enough to know not to allow any kid 15 years old to have a smart phone in the first place.

And it isn't porn you need to protect your child from, it's on line predators. I know that and like I said I'm not even a parent.

Don't judge. It's called responsible parenting.

If you need to sit there and hold your child's hand as they download applications, then they don't need a smartphone.

I gave my 15 year old son my Droid x not wanting him to get into certain apps . Help please. Thanks

Being a 16-year old myself, he will be very annoyed/possibly hate you if you block him from getting certain apps. Best to let the kid be, imo.

Don't. Besides, I'm pretty sure there's no parental controls as of yet.

And take it from a 16 year old; if you attempt it, he'll not only hate you, but likely find a way around/see it from other places. Trust me. There's no stopping it, and you shouldn't even try. Let the boy have fun.

wow... parenting advice from kids.... passsss.... I agree there's little they could do if they give the kid a smart phone, but to imply that parental decisions should be based on what's popular to 15/16 y.o.'s..... yikes

Maybe I'm just a over protected parent. Its coming to the point that's all your going to be able to buy is a smartphone. I think they need parent control on the market. I don't want my 15 year old looking at porn and all that .

Jitterbug. I'm all for easing kids into adulthood... but if they are breaking my trust on issues.... there is no law says that I have to give them a cell phone. While I think driving teens do need cell phones for emergencies... a jitterbug (or some other dumbphone...) will suffice. Tell them up front. Check and recheck and monitor. tell them... "if I even so much as THINK you are lieing to me, you lose the phone.

Well, you can go to https://market.android.com/account and see what he has downloaded I guess. Most likely though, he's already been looking at porn for many years and you'll never know about it. Just my 2cents.

I think all teens sneak porn, and that's healthy in teen development (doesn't mean I'm supplying it) but yes, porn on the inet is all over the place. I wouldn't worry about apps, but porn and like Hookbill says below....

And it isn't porn you need to protect your child from, it's on line predators. I know that and like I said I'm not even a parent.

THIS x's 11tybillion

iCarly is almost a bad thing as it shows two pretty teen girls online with no supervision and absolutely no problems other than other teens trying to hack their site or losing the rights to the domain name..... how naive if you think that is what would really happen if iCarly was real

There would be predators asking for topless pics, nudes.... there would be people stalking them.... and it's a real danger.

Bottom line.... too many parents wanting to be "the cool parents" so their kids (like the two I quoted earlier) 'like' them. I am not worried if my kids 'like' me today.... I want them to 'like' me when they are 35 and understand the dangers I helped manage for them when they had no clue existed. This was a huge issue me and my ex-wife had.... She wanted to give daughter a smart phone at 10. AT TEN FUGGING YEARS OLD!!!!!!11 I said no.... and the wife snuck behind my back and did it anyways.... of course....now we have a phone we are tied into for 2 years.... but I didn't care....

my wife wanted to be "the cool parent" and I wanted to set boundaries.... This is still a huge issue, but our daughter is coming up on 14 and can handle more responsibility but still, not a smart phone.

Who the hell is worried about internet predators stalking a smartphone user? I highly doubt your kid will be running a webcam from the phone. I really doubt the situation will be any different than surfing facebook or twitter or whichever social media outlet that they use.

As for blocking access like using the app market or restricting browsing, like I said before: If you're that (over)protective or worried, just don't give him the phone. There are tens of thousands of apps that are perfectly fine. Let him jump onto the information highway on his own right and learn from it.

What's wrong with porn? And I bet your son has seen and heard what you're trying to protect him from.

Stalking a smartphone user is not hard. Doesn't require a camera. With twitter geotagging and fb places, foursquare and other gps enabled apps its easier than most think.

Yeah, but wouldn't it be easy enough to get around that? You could just use Titanium Backup to freeze that app, download whatever you want, and unfreeze it. (assuming it's rooted of course)
