In Root Explorer, you can navigate to and either delete or rename (to .bak) the camera shutter sound. Problem permanently solved.

On the Droid 1 it is in:

/system/media/audio/ui/camera_click.ogg

Thanks, that works on the D2G as well

No problem. Another fun thing you can do is rename the files to end with .bak then find some .ogg files on the internet (or make your own). Put them in the ui folder and rename them with the original file name, i.e. camera_click.ogg.

Ta-da! Custom system sounds.

Oh yeah I forgot about that. I don't hear it since I usually use the on screen button and it doesn't do it. Well it doesn't appear to be in system/media/audio/UI so I'm not quite sure.

I think the focus sound would be an application sound as opposed to a system sound. It's probably built into the camera.apk file. I'm sure someone in the Droid Hacks sub-forum could figure out how to change it.
