Oh no here comes another gate. Over the past several days people have been posting photos taken by the Google Pixel and Pixel XL which include crazy lens flare with. The lens flare looks like an obnoxious rainbow like halo. This is triggered by any light source. Point the camera at the sun get a halo. Take a picture of a candle get a halo. The halo even shows up when the light source is not even in the frame. This seemed pretty isolated at first, but Google has responded.

Google acknowledged the halo in the Pixel User Community as a legitimate problem. They said that they will be able to develop of software fix for this issue which they are working on now. They home to have the update released in the next few weeks. The Pixel camera uses software for things like HDR+ and even stabilization. Whatever is causing the lens flare will hopefully be something they can fix.

I do hope its not the shape of the lens itself. It almost looks like they are using a wide angle lens that uses software to remove the fish bold effect.

Glad to hear it's something that can be fixed via software update.

They said "hopefully" can be fixed with a software update.
    Hopefully that's the case!

I may be in the minority here, but I think it is kind of a cool effect!

Once in awhile, I agree with you, but if a majority of pictures taken under those conditions were always coming out with that lense flare, I think it'd get real old real quick.

I really don't understand how this doesn't get revealed in internal testing.

That's irrelevant, any source of light causes the conditions to occur, and all devices are affected. This doesn't make any sense.

I was just kidding & failing at auto correct. I agree completely. You'd think someone would've noticed this prior to shipping.

Also, not sure that it's tied together, but I find it funny that my Google Camera app on my 6P just got an update today.
