Google's low cost Android One platform is not as successful as the company would like, so the tech giant is mulling over revamping its Android One initiative that seeks to rev up demand for low-priced smartphones.
Android One has "not delivered to expectations," Google managing director in India and Southeast Asia Rajan Anandan told the Financial Times in an interview published on Sunday. He said that the platform, which faced "a few hiccups," will require that phones hit the "sweet spot" of pricing at up to $50 per device to be successful in India.
Google’s Android One aims to offer stock version of the mobile OS and the promise of updates to the next version on low-budget devices. This also puts focus on Google’s key services such Google Play, Google Music, Gmail, etc, another crucial area of focus for the tech giant.
