Gmail in Notification Bar Question - Droid Incredible

I have a question regarding receiving Gmail notifications on my HTC Droid Incredible phone for Verizon Wireless. When I receive a Gmail email in the pull down notification bar, all that is displayed is my email address and amount of emails in my inbox. For example, it will read '[email protected](887)'. However, when my wife receives a Gmail email on her Incredible, the subject and sender of the email will show up in the notification bar instead, which is how I would like mine to show up. Does anyone know how to fix this? I've played with my Gmail preferences a bit to try and make this work, but with no luck. Thank you for the help in advance!

From what I've noticed, if your new mail is the only unread mail in your inbox, you will see the sender and subject. If you have more than one unread mail, you will see your email address and the # of unread emails. That's what has happened to me in my experience.
