Galaxy S4 - Text-to-speech engine settings?

I've been trying to get the default text-to-speech voice to change on my new S4, but whenever I change a voice using either Samsung TTS or Ivona, nothing actually changes in any of my apps. Is there some sort of step I'm missing? The settings path I've used is Settings > My Device > Language and Input > Text-to-speech options, and while changing voices will change the "listen to an example" voice it doesn't seem to be making a difference anywhere else.
