Excessive problems with Droid Razr Maxx - factory reset did not help

It started with the battery draining, then started constantly freezing such as: Camera, Alarm Clock Plus, Files, Settings, etc. It now will not shut off. It I try to power down, the 'powering off' screen stays up and the phone overheats. Resetting it at this point only causes it to power back up and the same thing happens if I try to power off again. It has also started to hang for lengthy amounts of time. I've factory reset it and nothing has changed. I'm at my wits end, any advice would be greatly appreciated.
