email on notification bar

Why on my notification does it keep showing I have emails when i delete them? I'll get say 5 emails open K-9 read and delete them then the next time I get an email it will show on the bar that i have 8 when I open K-9 there's only 3 in there.

I have turned off the phone and pulled the battery no help. Also I am running GDE.

Even K9 mail is based on the default client which is buggy. Check the sig and star the issue.

OP, you don't have to use the default email client. it really is terrible. i suggest having gmail check your POP3 accounts since the phone is gmail driven to begin with.
