Email Groups

Does anyone know how to group email addresses together in Gmail, so I can send out the same letter to a dozen people? Microsoft Exchange calls this a Distribution List, at least on my big PC. I see the "join" option in Contacts, but don't see any explanation as to what it does. In fact, I'm finding very little help on the email programs anywhere - maybe that's what I really need to find, assuming it exists!

In gmail, you create contact lists. This is in your contacts section. I dont have my xoom in front of me today, so I can not directly point it out.
