Solved Contacts Stopped Syncing

TxDoc

Active Member
My contacts stopped syncing December 25th 4:31 A.M.
Everything else syncs. Only my Google contacts won't. I've cleared my partition cache, contacts cache, every cache I can think of.
I've removed a couple of recently installed apps that I thought might have changed something. But, to no avail.

I really don't want to delete the account and restore it as I'm afraid I'll lose the pics and logos associated with the 900 people and businesses.

Is there something they may be causing this?

Thank you for your time and help.

I've also been thru this sequence:

Confirm Android Sync is turned on for your device

1. Touch Settings > Data usage > Menu

2. Make sure Auto-sync data is checked

3. Even if sync is already turned on, try turning sync off and on a few times

Confirm Google Contacts sync is turned on

1. Touch Settings > Accounts > Google > Select your account

2. Make sure Contacts is checked

3. Even if sync is already turned on, try turning sync off and on a few times

Make sure that background data is enabled. If you restrict background data, some apps and services won't work unless you're connected to WiFi.

1. Touch Settings > Data Usage > Menu

2. Make sure “Restrict background data” is not selected

Clear app cache and data for Google Contacts

1. Touch Settings > Select Applications Manager (or Apps)

2. Swipe to All > Choose Contact sync

3. Select Clear cache and clear data

Remove your Google Account and setup again

1. Touch Settings > Accounts > Google > Select your account

2. Choose Remove account

3. Then re-establish account

I also went
Settings-Google-restore contacts.

Result, message "10 contacts restored in background".

Still won't sync. The symbol looks like it is syncing, or spins, but stops and is still visible, just not spinning. The symbol remains visible.

I wanted to make sure a third party app, so I started in Safe Mode. But, that changed nothing.

I'm holding out deleting and restoring the account as I don't want to lose the photos/logos associated with 900 contacts. It'll take forever to manually restore them.

If you have another available phone I would try that first to see if just something went off on the Z play ...last option is factory reset and set up new ...

I don't have another phone. So I'm still just trying things.
Thanks for your reply and time. [emoji106]

I'm stumped TxDoc. I've been reading the posts here and the Moto Forum and not sure what else to even recommend. I hate to say the dreaded "FDR" word, but im sure it's already in the back of your mind.

Thanks, Sajo.

I'm gonna wait till I have the new battery put in next week. I'm gonna do everything again, and delete the account and let it rebuild, then the FDR.
I will come back with the result.

I added a Test Contact to my phone and it shows on my PC. So, does that constitute "syncing" of contacts?

Crazy question, but have you restarted your phone lately?
Yes. About 50 times, conservatively [emoji3]. With contacts syncs checked/unchecked. In safe mode, etc., etc.
It's not a life and death matter, I just hate to think I can't figure anything out. But, no one else has seemed to have run into this.
Thank you for your reply, CM.[emoji111]

Thanks for sharing the fix @TxDoc. [emoji106] That's definitely good to put in the "list of things to remember" memory bank. I would have never thought to check & try that. Who knows how many other people may read this thread and fix their issue. Good deal!
