Contacts date format

when I go to my contacts and look a specific contact person. The birth date is not presented in the desired format (m/d/yyyy). Instead, the date is presented as 1965-06-03. How do I get the phone/Android follow the date convention that I have specified? Thanx

P.s. I've already gone to settings /time-date and I selected 12/31/2000 and it still wont change in contacts
