Probably so! I don't really use the play store on the watch, but if it gets updates & bug fixes faster because of it, I'm all for that.

Wear App Manager for the win! That's really the best way to add/delete apps from your phone to your watch.

I even managed to sideload an app onto my watch with ADB over bluetooth. There's a few more I might try that with (because the AW2.0 version is not really standalone). But for the most part, developers are just slacking - AW2.0 really enables apps to be standalone but in many cases we are still stuck with companion apps.

I'm not exactly sure that Android Wear doesn't still use at least the phone's data connection to download updates.

I am almost positive that it does. My watch only prompts me to update apps after my phone has already prompted me to update the same app.

Believe so - I've gotten that notification even when my watch is connected to wifi.

The hardware on these watches is where many phones were 5(?) years ago. The watches should be able to function completely standalone. Heck, they probably can run full-blown Android.

I hope AW3.0 makes the manufacturers up their game on RAM and storage.

Which price? Could you be a little more specific, the price of a new watch, new phone?
