hi I have.d2g and was wondering if the built in app called 3g mobile hotspot is free. I heard that its free to use but u get charged if anything connects to your hotspot. I know their are alternate ways to do this, but I am just wondering about this app. I have searched forums but couldn't find a direct answer to this specific question. Also I'm not sure if I posted this in the right spot.

The app itself is free (to have) but to use it, costs money-namely through the tethering plan, which is outrageously expensive.

I tried actually paying for the service and it wouldn't work on my DROID2 rooted and running the GB leak.

"outrageously" pretty much describes the price.

I use it when I go to my parents (who do not have internet). I have found it to be reliable and when I return from the trip, I just cancel with Verizon and they reimburse for the days not used.
