z4root sideload & root

Guys, I apologize in advance because I am a noob. I've read and read on this forum and others prior to this post (my 1st btw) about multiple ways to root. I've been pointed to z4root as the preferred method to make this happen.

I have the z4root program on my MAC but I've read conflicting reports on needing a side-loader app to get it loaded on my Droid X.

Can I drag and drop z4root from my Mac into the downloads folder on the SD card and then run the z4root? I just seem to have read many different answers to my questions and the more I read, the more that I get confused on how to do the root. Thanks for your help guys, and don't flame too hard for such a noob question.

Drop it in the phones download folder and then using a file maniger, find the file and install the app. Then you can run the app to root.

Thanks. I needed some clarification and you and another gentleman from this forum helped me out immensely. I'll fire up Astro, enable USB debugging, and run the .apk. Thanks again,

Wes

Be aure to also go to settings > applications and check unknown sources.
