wont send text to a certain cell number, says its a land line but its not

I am trying to text my friends cell phone but the droid will not let me. it keeps saying that their cell phone is a land line. texts to other numbers work though. how do i fix it?

it originally didnt have an area code on it so it wouldnt work, but once i put the area code on it now it defaults back to my area code instead of the one its supposed to use

Are you saving them as mobile in the persons contact info
