Wondering why D2G is ignored by modding community

I went from a Motorola Milestone to a Droid 2 Global. And as much as I am enjoying the Fission ROM from Team DeFuse, I am wondering why there seems to be such low interest in the Droid 2 Global compared to the original Droid 2? Can anyone give me some info as to why this is the case? I realize that with the Droid 2 globals additional radios that that transcribes to more work to get those operational in a custom ROM, I just dont understand why this powerful phone is ignored and left to sit on the curb. Thank you to all in advance.

Not saying D2G is a bad phone, but there are better phones out there. Also it kinda came out at a bad time after people had already bought Droid X's/Droid 2's.

Yeah, I realize its not the most powerful, but its still fairly up there at least to phones from last year. Thank you for reply. I hope that when Gingerbread comes out for it that will help pump some life into this phone. I was thinking maybe developesr were holding out until Gingerbread came out before continuing working on the phone. Guess I'll keep my eyes on the forums.

A lot of developers are holding off until gingerbread comes out. No use in doing all that work for a Froyo rom when gingerbread could drop anytime and then that will get custom roms. And it really is one of the more powerful devices. It has a 1.2 GHz processor which is more than both the DX and D2(both have a 1GHz). I think the reason its ignored is the dual radio bands due to it being global but its unfortunate because it is one of the most powerful phones out there (until dual core comes out soon). And if you get sick of that Fission Rom, try 13th Angels rom in the D2G roms section. Pretty bug free and much faster than fission imo

It's because most phones can take the ROM for another phone, modify a few framework files, and be ported to a new phone. That's how the ROMer tool works, it modifies the D2 ROMs so they work on a D2G. However, the D2G's 2nd cellular radio is tied into the framework in such a way that the only real way to write a real ROM for the D2G is to start from scratch. Nobody has really wanted to do that, especially considering GB is "coming". Sad to say, we'll probably never see much Dev love for these.

It sucks too because we wont get much in the way of custom. And gingerbread will hopefully come but who knows whats going on there. It just kinda makes me mad because i wanted a regular droid 2 anyway. I dont use the global capability and verizon kinda just forced the d2g on everybody and phased out the d2. So we kinda got the short end of the stick. At least we got the faster processor.

I just downloaded the 13 Angel rom but have not flashed it yet. I tried the fenom for a couple days and it kept locking up my phone or draining my battery fast. I will flash 13 Angel this weekend. Anyone know if the 13 angel rom has the gingerbread theme with the black and green up top? I really like that look over the standard grey.

It looks like stock but if you want to change that go here droidpirate.com. It has all kinds of icons and a few status bar colors you can put on it. Just download metamorph. its very easy to use. and before you flash angel, i had to sbf then download the verizon update so its at 2.4.330. then re rooted adn flashed. Before i did all that, my bluetooth wouldnt work.

Dual cores have been out for awhile now.

The romer does alot more then just modify the frame work file. Swype and the LatinIME(Keyboard APK) had to be replaced for the D2G versions. Weather widget had to be updated, and of course compensation for the radio. Wifi and Bluetooth had to be updated.Blur changes had to be made. Dont forget they had to add support for the D2G physical keyboard.

Just wanted to ask if any of the devs plan on mking custom gingerbread roms for this device after the update is released? Also will we see any roms that have a lot of customizations like cyanogenmod or liberty? I know the locked bootloader prevent cyanogenmods and custom roms due to locked kernal, I am merely commenting on customized roms with options. Thanks to all and sorry if the comments long

The devs are waiting to get gb out so they can make roms they didn't want to waste their time on froyo if gb is cusp of dropping, can't wait to it happens...I might jump in the game and lrn to theme more.
