So I have EasyTether and it works great but I don't like the idea of needing computer software. Are there any tethering aps that simply work without the computer ap? EasyTether doesn't even require root... Thanks

Not that I'm aware of, since USB networking isn't native to most operating systems, and they all handle them slightly different, they pretty much all require an app of some sort.
The only way to get around that is using WiFi tethering, either by paying VZ and extra $20/mo or rooting and doing it for free.

Ah okay. My previous phone was a Samsung Omnia and all I had to do was plug it in and connect through my phone. Maybe the fact that the Omnia is Windows was why. I also have wireless tethering setup but I prefer wired. The Omnia used basic ICS.

Yeah, that would most likely be why, it would make sense that the Microsoft would make something like that really easy to do for their own products :)
